These revision notes for HY242 are all you will need to revise from for the final exam but will also prepare you well for class and formatives. They include a timeline, detailed essay plans, all the relevant past exam questions, reading notes and key definitions. The notes are 28 pages long and have over 10,000 words. The notes focus on the following topics: the 1917 Revolution, the Soviet Union as ‘anti-Russian’, cultural revolution to consolidation, the Soviet intelligentsia and de-Stalinization, soviet society and dissent, Brezhnev’s ‘Real Socialism’. However, other key topics are touched upon where they overlap with these ones as Zubok’s exam questions tend not to be based on only one week.
The notes were originally written for the 2017 exam but have been updated since then to ensure they reflect the questions asked in 2017. These notes are all I used for my final revision and I received an 81 in the final exam (top of the year).
